i quit!

I have decided that after four years, it is finally time to move on! I am turning in my first letter of resignation in my profressional career and am so excited not to have to return! Although, the two week notice will require me to do so. I'll miss my friends, I won't miss management, they are brutal. I really wanted to do something crazy dramatic, but found it in my best interest not to.

It took me over a year to decide to pull the plug!! Tonight, I celebrate...

Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow

Ok, so I have been a total slacker on posting these pictures. I still find myself hording them on my phone so I can show them to anyone and everyone who brings up the weather. This is my closure. We received snow a few weeks back, some saw it, some didn't. Those that didn't get to see the flakes are pissy and pretend it didn't happen. I know they are just secretly jealous that I saw it and had my handy phone to prove it! I hope that Florida does not have to wait another twenty years to see it again!

I appreciate cold weather for the following reasons:

1. I get to wear all the different boots that I spend a god awful amount of money on "just in case."

2. Hair control

3. that about covers it.

Thrift Stores, Consignment Shops, Bargain Hunting OH MY!

Some of you may know that I have been searching for the perfect wing back chair to reupholster. My search has led me to become a daily craiglister, a consignment shopper (more on that later) and a garage sale goer. But I have FINALLY found the chair I will make my master piece. I found it at a resale shop in another town through craigslist. It definitely needs some work. I plan on picking out some fabric this weekend and buying supplies.

Anyone ever reupholster a wing back? I recently went into a shop where a man specialized in finding furniture, reupholstering it and selling it at not so cheap prices. He laughed when I told him that I was going to attempt this. Not exactly what I find motivating...

So, this brings me to good ole goodwill. I am all for thrift store shopping. I really am. What I am not for is walking into a store and leaving smelling like urine. I actually went into places where I would not touch anything. I apologize to those who were with me and also reeked of urine.

BUT!!! I did find this

And after some serious elbow grease, I ended up with this. Ooh la la

Pictures of the chair and fabric to come...

excuse me nurse, can I talk to you outside?

Not for anything, but I do believe that as a nurse, I should not be subjected to patients hitting, pinching or spitting at me. Actually, I would rather take that then have to deal with the crazy families that seem to think that all we nurses do is sit around and eat bon bons. Yes, I said bon bons. There is nothing worse than taking great care of your nearest and dearest to have you decide to visit and become a hell raiser. I mean seriously. For all of you who are not in healthcare, I especially think you should tune in...

Yesterday, I received a sweet old lady from the emergency room who had trouble breathing. She was on a non-rebreather mask because she required a good amount of oxygen. Over the next six hours, I was in her room somewhere between twelve to fifteen times. I know this thanks to the lojack tied to my back that we have to wear.

I weaned this lady from her non-rebreather mask to a nasal cannula with 3 liters of oxygen. I changed/cleaned her three times because somewhere from her house to the hospital she lost the ability to control her bodily functions. I assisted her with two of her meals and even sneaked her in a small packet of salt. I moved her from the bed to the chair, chair to bed, bed to chair and back to bed again. I made sure she was clean, fresh and had her hair looking good because she was upset she spent 17 dollars the day before getting her hair done and had to waste it sitting in the hospital. Lets not mention the IV I had to replace and all the meds she was prescribed. Oh, and my favorite part of the day was having to call the doc because she was having severe leg cramps and ask for potassium since he ordered 100mg of IV lasix in the e.r. and never replaced her already low potassium...awesome, isn't it??

Then you stroll in on your wonderful New Years Day and visit with mommy for less than 20 minutes. Thank you for pulling me outside of her room and telling me that I have to check on your mom every once in a while because she won't use the call light. I appreciate that, because without your reminders, I may have forgotten all about her. OH, and thanks again for reminding me that extra time before I left the room.

closet craiglister

For my first post, I think I will discuss craigslist. When I search for something on this wonderful site, my heart races in excitement of finding the perfect (fill in the blank here). This pairs perfectly with my secret desire to quit nursing and become a furniture maker extraordinaire.

My current search is for the perfect armchair to reupholster, which has not been easy. I am looking for bones like this to paint in a distressed black/dark grey

and to reupholster with this

my search continues...
